The 8 Best Liquid Melatonin Supplements To Help You Fall Asleep In No Time

If you’re searching for the best liquid melatonin, you probably already know that liquid is one of the best ways to get this natural supplement. Liquid melatonin works quickly, is absorbed easily, and can be more effective than pills.

And with all the options for melatonin supplements on the market, you may be asking — how do you choose the best one?

In this article, we’ll break down the pros and cons of some of the best melatonin supplements that come in liquid form, so you can make an informed choice. We’ll also talk about how liquids compare to other types of supplements and who can benefit the most from taking them.

In this section, we’re going to go over your options in detail, showing you how our products compare to those from other brands in terms of flavor, ease of use, dosing, and additional ingredients.

1. MELO Sip

If you’re looking for a complete melatonin package that supports relaxation, comes in several great-tasting flavors, and is super easy to use, look no further than MELO Sip. It’s a powdered formula that comes in individual packets which you add to water and mix thoroughly.

Each serving contains 4 mg of melatonin (and one bag has 20 servings). If you want a smaller dose, like 2 mg, you can try using half the packet. Compared to a dropper (which is what most melatonin supplements use), it’s much easier to create a custom dose. With a dropper, it’s hard enough to measure a regular dose. It can be difficult just to see how much is in the dropper at any given time, let alone try to adjust the amount precisely to your needs.

In addition to 4 mg of melatonin, MELO Sip also contains L-Theanine, valerian root extract, chamomile extract, and GABA, all of which are considered natural sleep aids known to support relaxation. It’s important to understand that melatonin doesn’t fix many causes of poor sleep, such as anxiety. So if your sleep problems are related to anxiety or you just need an extra boost to further enhance melatonin’s efficacy, MELO Sip is a great choice.

Apart from the relaxation-enhancing ingredients, MELO Sip also contains vitamins and minerals to help support your optimal health during sleep: vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, zinc, and potassium. Zinc and potassium are important electrolytes that will help to keep you hydrated.

You can also adjust the concentration to your liking. Try adding it to a small glass of water for undiluted flavor, or a large glass of water for a more subtle flavor. It comes in watermelon, green apple, stardust, and pink star, each of which tastes amazing – and contains no added sugar. MELO Sip is sweetened with monk fruit extract, a natural zero-calorie sweetener.

The only drawback to this product is that you have to mix it yourself, which may result in poor distribution if done carelessly. Thankfully, there’s an easy fix: Just keep mixing it until it’s fully dissolved. You can also use a water bottle to shake the mixture to dissolve it more quickly.

We created MELO Sip because we were dissatisfied with the other melatonin supplements available, and we’re confident that our liquid melatonin supplement is the best on the market. Keep reading to see how it compares to other products.

2. Natrol Melatonin Liquid

For a straightforward liquid melatonin tincture with no additional nutrients or compounds, Natrol melatonin liquid is a good option. A serving is 1 mg, so depending on how much melatonin you want to take, you may want to double or triple the serving if you know you need a larger dose. Of course, you’ll go through the product much more quickly if you’re taking larger doses, though. Each bottle contains 15 servings, so 15 mg of melatonin in total.

Note that one serving of this product is measured as “4 droppers.” Having to refill the dropper multiple times just to get to one serving increases the chances of measuring incorrectly. However, since the product has such a low concentration of melatonin, there’s room for error, and you’ll be very unlikely to accidentally overdose.

One major drawback is the taste. It comes in only one flavor (berry), and customers don’t seem impressed with the taste, according to the reviews. It is sweetened with stevia, which is a natural zero-calorie sweetener, but it tends to have a strong, cloying taste. One person commented that the taste “hinders enjoyment.” To counter this, you might consider adding it to water, so the taste is more diluted.

3. Benevolent Nourishment Liquid Melatonin

The liquid melatonin tincture from Benevolent Nourishment contains 3 mg of melatonin and minimal additional ingredients. It doesn’t have any kind of sweetener, just natural flavors. As with the Natrol liquid melatonin, it only comes in one flavor, but customers seem satisfied with the taste. A bottle contains 59 servings, giving you decent value.

Unfortunately for this brand, one serving size is unhelpfully measured as “30 drops.” Drops are hardly a standardized measurement, and we’re guessing most people just fill the dropper with the liquid rather than diligently counting to 30. If you’ve ever used a dropper before, you know it can be very hard to get just a small drop to come out, even with the best intentions, and especially 30 times in a row.

Thankfully, the company responded to a concerned customer who was having trouble measuring the right dose by explaining that 30 drops is equivalent to “two (2) half full droppers.” It’s unclear why they didn’t just say “one full dropper,” but this does suggest that proper dosing may not require you to count 30 drops. Thank goodness.

4. Svasthya Liquid Melatonin

Similar to the product from Benevolent Nourishment, the liquid melatonin tincture from Svasthya contains 3 mg of melatonin in each serving, and a bottle contains 59 servings. One serving is one dropper, so no need to count drops or refill it multiple times. It only comes in one flavor, which presumably is lemon, based on the fact that it contains natural lemon flavor.

It also contains stevia, but unlike the Natrol product, it uses “debittered” stevia – which has a milder taste. Customers seem satisfied with the taste overall, though some commented that they wish the product came in additional flavors.

The only drawback is the same drawback shared by most of these liquid melatonin supplements: Using a dropper to measure a dose is not easy. The company seems to have made it as straightforward as they can, but measuring a custom dose may be a bit of a challenge.

5. Source Naturals Liquid Melatonin

Source Naturals also makes a liquid melatonin tincture, and each serving (or dropper) contains 1 mg of melatonin. As with the Natrol tincture, you may need to increase the dose, potentially going through the product faster. However, one bottle contains 118 servings, giving you great value.

As with the other tinctures we’ve looked at, this product only seems to come in one flavor (orange). It also contains sorbitol – a sugar alcohol – which can cause gastrointestinal distress according to a study from the American Journal of Medicine. In addition, this tincture contains ethyl alcohol (3%), making it unsuitable for children or anyone who needs to avoid alcohol. That said, you can try this as long as you’re okay with alcohol and don’t have GI problems.

6. Sundown Sublingual Melatonin Liquid

The sublingual melatonin liquid from Sundown contains 1 mg of melatonin per serving. A serving is said to be 1 mL, but unfortunately, the package doesn’t seem to contain instructions on how to measure 1 mL of the product. We’re left to assume that one dropper is 1 mL. A bottle contains 59 servings.

Other ingredients include natural flavors and preservatives. It only comes in one flavor (cherry), and it doesn’t have any sweeteners. Customers seem to find the taste okay (according to Amazon reviews), though one commented that it tastes like artificial sweeteners – despite the fact that the product doesn’t contain any. The sublingual formula also requires you to hold the liquid under your tongue, which may not be enjoyable for everyone.

7. NOW Foods Liquid Melatonin

NOW Foods makes a liquid melatonin supplement with 3 mg of melatonin per serving and approximately 66 servings per bottle. Unlike the other tinctures we’ve looked at, this doesn’t include a dropper. It’s simply a liquid you have to measure yourself – a serving is ¼ teaspoon.

The product also contains fructose (actual sugar) as well as xylitol and organic cane alcohol (sugar alcohols) in addition to preservatives and natural flavors. Some Amazon customers found the taste a little too sweet but didn’t think it was a dealbreaker.

8. Pure Encapsulations Melatonin Liquid

The last melatonin tincture is from Pure Encapsulations, which includes 2.5 mg of melatonin per serving. A serving is one dropper, and each bottle contains 30 servings. It’ll be even harder to customize a specific dose with this product, given the half-milligram increment in the serving, but this is a fine option if 2.5 mg of melatonin is a good dose for you.

Other ingredients include concentrated fruit juice (for flavor) as well as stevia and preservatives. As with all the other tinctures we’ve discussed, it comes in only one flavor. Some people may not appreciate the addition of stevia, which as we’ve seen can have a strong flavor.

How Do Liquids Compare to Pills and Gummies?

A person holding a glass of watermelon juice up in the air while showing the bright sky on the background.

As we’ve seen by now, MELO Sip is really in a class of its own compared to other popular liquid melatonin brands on the market. No other brand is as easy to use, offers multiple (and great-tasting) flavor options, or contains any of the added nutrients and compounds to support relaxation. But how do liquid melatonin supplements compare to other types of melatonin supplements?

The fact is that liquids are absorbed more quickly – and efficiently – than pills (or melatonin gummies). An article from Medicare Europe explains why this is: Pills need to be broken down in your stomach before you can even begin to absorb their contents, and this process can take upwards of half an hour. Once they’re finally ready to be absorbed, studies have shown you’ll only end up absorbing 39-53% of their contents (giving you expensive urine).

Meanwhile, the same article claims that liquid supplements can be absorbed in as little as 1-4 minutes, and you’ll absorb 98% of their contents. This is true of any dietary supplement, not just melatonin. So, given the choice between liquid supplements or pills, liquid supplements are clearly superior. They are also easier to swallow than pills and can be taken closer to your bedtime.

So, we’ve seen that liquid melatonin is absorbed more quickly than pills, but you may be wondering at this point if there are any other types of supplements that can be absorbed even more quickly than liquids. The answer is yes! The fastest way to get melatonin into your system is to use a vaporizer.

MELO Labs also makes a melatonin vaporizer, MELO Air, with even faster absorption than liquid melatonin. A randomized controlled trial from the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences found substances inhaled from vaporizers could be absorbed in as little as 20 seconds.

Because the absorption time is so fast, you actually don’t need as high a concentration of melatonin. One serving of MELO Air has only 1.3 mg of melatonin, but that’s all you’ll need. In fact, an entire vaporizer only contains 3.9 mg in total, so there’s very little chance of you overdosing.

These vaporizers contain no nicotine, THC, vitamin E acetate, nor anything else known to be harmful when inhaled – and they also contain L-Theanine as a bonus for relaxation. That said, more research needs to be done on vaping, so if you are at all concerned about inhaling vaporized substances, you might want to stick with liquid melatonin.

Who Can Benefit From Liquid Melatonin Supplements?

Pretty much anyone! As we’ve seen, liquid supplements have much better absorption rates than pills, but older adults (and anyone who has difficulty swallowing) may find liquid supplements especially helpful. Switching to liquid supplements might also be a good idea for anyone who has stomach problems, since you’ll spare your digestive system the unenviable task of breaking down a pill.

Older adults in particular may benefit from melatonin supplements, since natural melatonin production in your pineal gland decreases with age (according to a review from Experimental Gerontology). For this reason, older adults should consider melatonin supplementation, especially as an alternative to addictive sleep medicine.

We also recommend liquid melatonin supplements to anyone experiencing jet lag, since they can help you adjust to your new time zone, but note that they aren't a good long term solution to sleep disorders.

The main drawback to liquid supplements is that it can be difficult to measure out a serving, let alone customize a specific dose, when using a dropper from a tincture. Thankfully, this isn’t a problem when you take MELO Sip. Just make sure you mix it thoroughly to ensure the mixture has an even distribution, so it can be completely absorbed.

This last point is especially important if you are new to melatonin, since you’ll want to start with as low a dose as possible, and slowly work your way towards higher doses only as necessary. In an interview with the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Lauren Goldman suggests starting with a 1 mg dose. Note that higher doses are not necessarily more effective.

Dr. Goldman also points out that the effects of melatonin can easily be overridden. It’s not a sedative, so if you take it and then go play a video game or get on your phone, you’re not likely to feel the effects. It’s important to allow yourself to wind down after taking melatonin so you can actually work with the supplement, and not against it.

As you’ve no doubt seen by now, you have plenty of options when it comes to liquid melatonin supplements. If you’re still on the fence about which one to try, go ahead and try a few, and see how they compare.

For a more complete sleep support formula, try MELO Sip, which will help promote relaxation and reduce anxiety and stress for a good night’s sleep. Try it in all three flavors to find out which one you like best.
